Did I meet my initial expectations?

Updated: May 7, 2021

During the planning phase of my artefact I had many planned features such as an intro and outro cutscene that was scrapped due to lack of knowledge and time towards the end of the project. The initial plan was to have the intro tell the story within the game to give the player a sense of why they are fighting infected food whilst being really small. Before creating 3d assets I was overly ambitious with how many 3d models I could create to a good quality for our artefact. I had to adapt by creating lower quality assets to have the game look as good as the game currently good as it does. Examples of these are the can of soup and door stop which were created within blender and textured within a photo editing tool called Krita the whole process for these assets took around an hour whereas the donut asset took around 4 hours, the reason the donut took longer was because it is a more complex model and had a redesign at the end.

Towards the end of the project, I learnt substance painter which allowed me to create significantly higher quality materials for use within our artefact, however it takes longer to create the high-quality materials than to simply set a colour of an object such as the doorstop which is simply a single colour

In conclusion I did not meet my initial expectations for the artefact the reason for this was I was too ambitious in the beginning for the number of assets I would be able to create.
